WELS Historical Institute Presentation
Great Hymns of Faith—from the Early Christian Church
to the Reformation
August 3, 2019
Location: Salem Landmark Church Museum, 6814 N 107th Street, Milwaukee, Wis.
Presenter: Carl Nolte
This presentation will briefly look at the history behind some of the great hymns of our Christian musical heritage and then sing through them using the refurbished reed organ at the Landmark Museum. Most of the hymns will be familiar to users of The Lutheran Hymnal (1941) and Christian Worship (1993). Some of the hymns will also have “sneak previews” of how they will probably look in the new WELS hymnal coming out in a few years.
The presenter is the retired Sacred Music and Worship Editor from Northwestern Publishing House. He served for a number of years on the WELS Commission on Worship, including the 1993 hymnal committee. He is a graduate of DMLC, New Ulm, MN, and also has a masters in church music degree from Concordia, River Forest, IL.
